When I was young, growing up in the South, I didn’t know any better. I didn’t comprehend that some of what I was experiencing was cultural bias, or societal oppression, or just plain prejudice.
As I grew older and wiser, I began to recognize choices I wish I had made but didn’t. When I finally began turning inward for answers, I found a voice of honesty, a voice I could trust, the Wise Woman.
Maybe the internet will change things for the future generations growing up with this mentality. There are many ways to empower women to overcome circumstances. Will they receive the guidance they need, to challenge their situations of cultural, financial, or racial oppression? This organization has a great approach. Please do your part to support their efforts.
This is a great site with a creative approach to a dreadfully under supported issue. The Girl Effect
“Adolescent girls are capable of raising the standard of living in the developing world. Girls are the most likely agents of change, but they are often invisible to their societies and to our media. When everyone- girls, parents, teachers, executives, artists, hairdressers, forest rangers, rock stars, presidents, investors, advertisers, skateboarders, truckers, cowboys, organizations, chefs, teenagers- knows about the Girl Effect, then real change can happen. This site is just the beginning. The end is nothing less than ending poverty. We think there’s a movement on the rise. ” Check out the Girl Effect Networks
